Karlovy Vary was founded in Western Bohemia in the 14th century by the Czech King Charles IV, whose entourage discovered a hot spring by chance. According to his own experience the Emperor proclaimed the spring the healing power. However, its major construction and balneological boom came 200 years later. In the course of time the spa became more and more popular. Rich aristocracts went here in order to be treated. Without doubt, the most prominent patient of the 18th century was the Russian Czar Peter the Great and the artists´celebrities of the 19th century, like Beethoven, Franz Josef I., Dobrovský, Paganini, Chopin, Mozart, Gogol, Tyl, Barrande, Purkyně, Freud and many others. At the beginning of the 18th century the first public spa house was built (the Mill Spa) as well as the Baroque St. Mary Magdalene church. The further construction development took place in the 2nd half of the 19th century when the Mill Colonnade, the Thermal Spring Colonnade, Emperor´s Baths or the building of the present-day theatre originated. We can see the greatest and warmest Karlovy Vary´s spring in the centre of the spa zone. It rises to the surface with remarkable force. The Thermal Spring is able to spout water 12 meters high.

The Karlštejn castle was founded in 1348 by the Czech King and Roman Emperor Charles IV. as a place for safe keeping of the royal treasures. At the beginning of the Hussite wars the Czech crown jewels were transferred here for safety reasons and they were kept here for nearly 200 years. The castle was remodelled in late Gothic style after 1480 and then in Renaissance style in the last quarter of the 16th century. The Karlštejn´s collections can take pride in entirely unique original wall paintings dating back to the 14th century and a collection of 129 panel paintings by Master Theodoric (the largest one of its kind worldwide) in the Chapel of the Holy Cross.

Originally a medieval castle Konopiště was founded  in the manner of the french fortresses near the Benešov town about 1294 by Prague bishop Tobias of Benešov. During the centuries the castle was owned by many noble families, e.g. Šternberks, Valdštejns and Lobkovics. In 1887 the castle with the whole domain was  bought from Lobkovic by Franz Ferdinand d´Este, since 1896 the successor to the throne. The archduke had the castle rebuilt and its surroundings transferred into the park. On the site of the former Baroque garden he founded the Rose garden with greenhouses. He put his extensive hunting collections and collections of weapons into the castle. Franz Ferdinand d´Este was assassinated with his wife Sophia in Sarajevo in June 1914. A month later after the assassination the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I. declared war on Serbia. During the World War II. the main headquarters staff of the SS troops was placed in Konopiště. The inner furnishings remained the same to the largest degree, which resembles the time when Franz Ferdinand d´Este inhabited the castle with his family.

Terezín was founded as a fortress at the end of 18th century by the Emperor Josef II. The town lies near the confluence Labe with Ohře. The fortifications of Terezín (Main Fortress and Small Fortress), although the modern ones for their perion, gradually became obsolete and fell into disregard. Only in the recent past Terezín has once entered the world´s public consciousness as a tragic symbol of sufferings of the tens of thousands of innocent people who died here during the Nazi Occupation of our country. Terezín became a transit station on the way to the extermination camps and more than 160.000 people went through it until the end of the occupation (through the Small Fortress  33.000). The town was liberated at night from 8th until 9th May 1945 by the Soviet Army, which passed through Terezín on its way towards Prague.

The written records about the knowledge of glass-making in the Czech Lands date back to the 12th century. The oldest glassfactories have been documented in the Bohemia since the end of 13th century. There was an extraordinary blossoming of this production in this period. Tens of glassworks  appeared almost in the whole range of frontier mountains. Those factories exploited rich local forests for the production. After the Thirty Years´ War the transparent pure glass started to be melted in the Czech Lands which was labelled as the Bohemian Crystal. The Czech Glass has had an extraordinary position in Europe since the Middle Ages and has been a criterion of the period fashion.

The origin of Kutná Hora is linked with the development of monetary economy in the 13th century, however, the first beginnings of mining started much earlier. The silver reefs were probably discovered here at the end of 10th century by Slavniks. The turning point in the Kutna Hora´s history was the year 1300 when the king Wenceslas II. (1278-1305) granted the mining code to the settlements and a number of privileges and charters which elevated Kutna Hora into the second most important town after Prague. Among the landmarks of Kutná Hora we can find without any doubts St. Barbara´s Cathedral dating to the 14th century, St. Jacob´s Church dating to the same period and the Italian Court, since the 14th century the central minting court of the state. Sedlec´s ossuaryhas an interesting history as well. Originally it was a cemetery church of the local cistercian monastery. In 1278  the cemetery obtained thanks to the abbot of the local monastery the reputation of the Holy Land. Not only the people from the neighbourhood but also from abroad   were buried here since then. The most burials took place approximately 1318 when the plague broke out. According to estimates, in Sedlec´s ossuary there are reminders of about 40.000 people.

According to the legend Dětenice was established under the reign of the Prince Oldřich in the first half of the 11th century. Oldřich was hunting with his entourage in the local forests and came across the abandoned children here. As he was a throughout noble-minded man, he took charge of the children. He had a village built for them and named it Dětenice in their honour. The Chateau Dětenice was owned in the past by plenty of famous aristocratic families. We can name for example Valdštejns and Family Glam-Gallas. The castle was rebuilt many times and the last remodelling was here in 1998 when also a completely not traditional tavern in the medieval style was established in the castle´ premises and the manufacturing of the local family brewery was renewed. On your request we would like to ensure an unforgettable evening in the local tavern with the original period programme.  

The originally Gothic castle Český Šternberk has dominated the landscape around the central reaches of the  Sázava River since 1241. The castle is located on the steep stony bank of the Sázava River and it has been called „Pearl of Posázaví-Region“ until these days. It was founded by Zdeslav of the Family Divišov and given the name „Šternberk“ according to the customs of that time. The new to-name of the Family Šternberk also dates back to the same period. It is remarkable that the castle has been owned by this family till now. The castle underwent several reconstructions up to the Early Baroque remodelling of the interiors in order to convert the castle into a comfortable residence. The tour leads through fifteen richly furnished rooms, superbly furnished Knight´s hall, the uniquely ornamented Chapel of St. Sebastian, the cosy library with several thousand volumes and the dining room, adorned with sheet silver. As next room we can visit the oriental anteroom, the breakfast room and the study of the present-day owner, Jiří Šternberg. We can also find here an interesting collection of historical weapons, sets of precious china and various examples of small-scale works of art from previous centuries.

The chateau Hluboká was founded as a guarding castle in the mid of 13th century. During the centuries several aristocratic families used to live here. One of the most significant families used to be e.g. Family of Pernstejn who founded the nearby fishpond Bezdrev in 1490. In 1661 the chateau Hluboká was bought by Schwarzenbergs who used to live here until 1939 when the last owner emigrated overseas in order to escape from the Nazis. The Schwarzenbergs  rebuilt the castle twice. The main pattern of the project was the Royal Castle of Windsor.

The present-day appearance of the rococo chateau in Dobříš dates back to 1745 – 1765 when its reconstruction was finished by Jindřich Pavel Mannsfeld. The present-day owner of the chateau is Dipl. Ing. Jerome Colloredo-Mansfeld.

Nelahozeves, the magnificent Renaissance chateau situated approximately 30 km north of Prague, enjoys a great popularity of its visitors. A precious collection of paintings and works of handicrafts  belong to its greatest gems. The visitors can see the beautiful furniture, precious glass, porcelain, musical instruments, ceramics and valuable items from precious metal in the interior of the chateau. All exhibits date back to the periods from 12th until 20th century. Nelahozeves is not only the castle but especially the famous birth place of Antonín Dvořák, the creator of many operas and symphonic opuses. His native house is located in this village. It is also possible to see his statue standing on the square. Antonín used to play the organ in the loft of the local St. Andraw´s church when he was a child.
